Intra-operative MRI
Bergman, Ross and Partners are the only radiology firm in Africa with a well-established, fully functioning intra-operative MRI suite for neurosurgery.
The facility was set up in 2009; designed and constructed in conjunction with Netcare N1 City Hospital, GE Healthcare and the late Dr G. Coetzee – resident neurosurgeon.
This facility is used during complex neurosurgical procedures involving removal of brain tumours.
The MRI scanner is in direct communication with the neurosurgical operating room.
- This allows patients to be scanned during their procedure, whilst still under anaesthesia.
- This provides the neurosurgeon with vital information regarding complete or incomplete removal of tumors. It facilitates the more accurate and complete removal of tumors.
